Why this site is boring on purpose
The fastest way to stop writing is to build a writing system that needs maintenance. So this site does as little as possible.
The stack
Astro. It ships zero JavaScript by default, which is exactly right for a
site that is mostly words. Content collections give me typed frontmatter, so a
typo in a date fails the build instead of quietly rendering Invalid Date.
Markdown in the repo. No CMS, no admin login, no API keys to rotate. A post
is a file. Writing one is touch src/content/posts/thing.md.
Netlify. Push to main, it builds, it deploys. Pull requests get preview
URLs for free.
What I deliberately left out
- A comments system — the inbox is enough
- Analytics, for now
- A design system. It’s one stylesheet and about twenty custom properties.
The interesting constraint is that adding anything has to be worth the maintenance. A shop, if I ever build one, will have to earn its place the same way.
